2013 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

Howell Mountain, Napa Valley

Vintage Notes

The 2013 vintage in Howell Mountain was every bit as good as the critically acclaimed 2012 vintage in terms of yields and quality. Like 2012, this vintage offered an excellent growing season with temperate conditions, giving way to beautifully ripe complex fruit and balanced acidity and supple tannic structure. Though the wines are showing to be approachable at a young age, 2013 will be an excellent vintage to lie down next to your 2012s to compare over the years to come.

Tasting Notes

Our 2013 Beatty Ranch Vineyard designate Old Vine Zinfandel is a hand selection of our four best barrels of Zinfandel from this heralded property. Darker in profile than our other Zinfandel offerings, this seductively smooth wine reveals an intoxicating nose of brambly blackberries, blueberry compote, boysenberry syrup, sweet tobacco, roasted coffee, and slight hint of black cardamon. Full bodied with excellent concentration and a silky tannic structure, this wine finishes long and smooth with balanced acidity, and a beautifully textured mouth feel. Like our other 2013’s, this wine is enjoyable and approachable now (with a bit of air), but will cellar exceptionally well.

90pt-01Wine Enthusiast

"This is a concentrated, dark and brooding wine from the producer's well-known property, sparkling in acidity despite its intensity of weight and length. Blackberry and nutmeg sit atop a soft integration of tannin and oak. Drink now through 2020.
