We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Franc has been named the “Top Cabernet Franc in the World” at the 2020 TEXSOM International Wine Awards. The Awards garnered 2,875 total entries representing 25 countries and 19 U.S. States. Entries in the TEXSOM International Wine Awards were blind-tasted and judged by internationally renowned tastemakers from all over the world, including 19 Master Sommeliers, 16 Masters of Wine, and other category experts.

Wines demonstrating quality and unique character that are exceptional even amongst their medal-winning peers may be nominated by judging panels for specific Judges’ Selection categories. All Judges’ Selection nominees are elevated to platinum medal. These platinum medal wines are blind tasted by special panels to award the winner for each category of Judges’ Selection medal. This year 52 Judges’ Selection medals were awarded with the Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Franc being awarded the Judges’ Selection for the Top Cabernet Franc of the tasting. 90 point rating awarded to our 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel received a 90 rating from Wine Enthusiast:

“Structured tart red cherry and orange peel accent a robust grip of tannin and weighty power in this bold wine, made in small amounts from the mountain site. Black pepper, licorice and cola contribute spicy seasoning against the bigger notions of fruit and texture.”

Two-Puffs & 91 point rating awarded to our 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Beatty Ranch Zinfandel received a coveted 2-Puff and 91 point rating from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

“Lively, well-ripened, blackberry fruit gets a nice assist here from a carefully measured complement of creamy oak, and, while the wine shows a good sense of substance and depth from front to back, it is not beholden to overblown ripeness and stays in fine fruity focus throughout. Its supple beginnings are followed by a bit of sinewy stiffness owing to its combination of evident tannin and slightly elevated acidity, but it has the pieces to age handsomely and a few years on the cork will see it through to a more polished maturity”

One-Puff & 90 point rating awarded to our 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

Howell Mountain Vineyards 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2015 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon received a coveted 1-Puff rating from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

“True to the sturdier, slightly tougher norms of Howell Mountain Cabernets, the winery's solidly constructed Beatty Ranch bottling teases with touches of minerally complexity but is, in the main, fairly closed-in and brooding once past its moderately intense, ripe currant aromas. It is presently beat up by more than a bit of back-palate tannin, but, even if dissuasively astringent at the moment, it conveys an always-convincing sense of fruity substance and depth that raises real optimism for age. Hasty drinking is best avoided, and, although a minimum of five or six years of patience is recommended, another half-dozen could pass before it rounds into its best.”

91 point rating & Two Puffs awarded to our 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel

HMV ZIN OV-F-web.jpg

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel received a 91 point rating & Two Puffs from Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:

Ample ripeness, as this well-made Zinfandel so capably demonstrates, need not come at the cost of balance and polish, and, when met with as much deep and energetic fruit as is on display here, is no liability. The wine is quite full in body but is not sprawling or oversized, and its linear, very long-lasting flavors are marked by a striking sense of varietal purity and early gleanings of further layering to come with age. We see it deepening and becoming even more interesting with time, and, while not at all difficult to taste now, it is sure to reward a good half-decade of keeping.

90 point rating awarded to our 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel

We are pleased to announce that our Howell Mountain Vineyards 2016 Old Vine Zinfandel received a 90 point rating from Wine Enthusiast Magazine:

From some of the oldest plantings on the producer's mountain site, planted pre-Prohibition, this wine is thick, dense and plummy in dried fruit, tobacco and oak. Generous tannin structure makes it strong in style, dominant in blackberry, cherry and dark chocolate as it finishes.
